InspiWriting Challenge

In the search to find something new and creative to do, I have come up with an idea. Flash fiction using Inspirobot as a prompt. Go to Inspirobot, generate a quote, and write a short story of about 500 words based on what you get. It’s a fun way to flex those writing muscles while…

All the Tiniest Joys

What do you cherish in your life? When we are asked this question, the usual impulse is to list the big-ticket items, priceless and powerful aspects of life such as family, intelligence, and love. Some may cherish physical objects of great sentimental or monetary value. Some may be focused on physical beauty or great talents….

Bleys Says Hi

If you know geeks who have pets, there’s a pretty decent chance that you know geeks whose pets are named after characters from a book, comic, television series, or film.  In all actuality, you may even know geeks whose children are named after genre characters (who, me?).  Given this information, it will probably not surprise…

Incentives for Wee Geeks

When i first started blogging, I was worried that I might become just another Mommy blogger.  There is nothing wrong with being a Mommy Blogger, but I had this notion that, somehow, I would no longer have interests of my own.  Obviously, that’s not how it actually works. Another concern I had, as a parent…

Tracking the Past

I recently found a new hobby.  Okay, actually, it’s a new obsession.  I have begun tracking my family tree.  I have always wanted to do this, but felt I didn’t have the time.  In fact, I don’t have any extra time, but I decided it was a more productive use of the time between when…

Making Moustaches!

Anyone who has been following fun and popular things to do lately has probably seen that pretend moustaches are a big deal.  Sunglasses come with one attached, pre-glued ones abound, temporary tattoo finger ‘staches, even gold necklaces with jeweled moustache-shaped pendants! I thought I had blogged about the ‘staches I made this summer, and perhaps…

Creativity and me

I started this blog as a place where I could geek out about things, share ideas, and, yes, talk about the cool stuff I do with my kids.  It somehow became much more about the kids than the geekery.  Perhaps this is a stage that all parents go through, perhaps it is just a stage…

Cardboard Luxury Home

As a parent who is concerned about proper nutrition for her kids, I try to get the best food available.  That said, I only have a certain amount of time per week, and I do not have the option of driving to the grocery store while my children are at school.  Needless to say,…

Happy Birthday, GSUSA!

Some of the best fun I remember as a kid was during my brief time as a Brownie Girl Scout. I also have very fond memories of how lovely summertime was when my sister was away at Girl Scout camp.  So, when I discovered that there was a troop nearby that my daughter could join,…

Recent Projects and Other Activities

As I continue my studies, I have found that the balance between parenting, chores, coursework, and creativity is rather elusive.  There is so much on my cafeteria tray of life that I only get to taste a little bit of the fun stuff.  This is why I try to work some creative endeavors into other…

New projects have been envisioned!

One year, I don’t remember whether we had a Christmas tree, but I do remember helping my mom cover the entire front room with kraft paper, and making presents and ribbons and even a life-size fireplace out of paper. We hung our stockings in front of the paper fireplace. It was like the world had been magically transformed, and my Mom became a hero because she had done this. I also recall a time when she sat on the floor with me and we drew pictures on haunted houses using my huge box of crayons. My Mom is a very creative person, and the times when I was able to share the creation of things with her are cherished moments. I even remember hunting together for pinecones and then dipping them in glue and glitter to make beautiful sparkling decorations.

A Creative Look at Age

I recently celebrated my birthday.  It was a lovely day, shared with friends and family.  As I encountered people during the week leading up to my birthday, I was told repeatedly that it was my twenty-ninth birthday.  I find this to be a very interesting and odd aspect of our society.  We seem to collectively…
