Alligator’s Friends is Almost Here!

To say I have been busy for the past few months is an understatement! I have been keeping up with the kids, my PTA duties, a NEW JOB, and finishing my children’s book, Alligator’s Friends. Now, all of the artwork has been completed, scanned, and gone through the layout process. The book is set to…

Alligator’s Friends Need Your Help

For some time now, I have been creating whimsical pictures of animals using torn scraps of interesting paper.  This began as a project when both of my children were toddlers. It was a rainy week, and we were all sitting together downstairs, with a bright array of origami paper spread out on the floor around…

Incentives for Wee Geeks

When i first started blogging, I was worried that I might become just another Mommy blogger.  There is nothing wrong with being a Mommy Blogger, but I had this notion that, somehow, I would no longer have interests of my own.  Obviously, that’s not how it actually works. Another concern I had, as a parent…

Making Moustaches!

Anyone who has been following fun and popular things to do lately has probably seen that pretend moustaches are a big deal.  Sunglasses come with one attached, pre-glued ones abound, temporary tattoo finger ‘staches, even gold necklaces with jeweled moustache-shaped pendants! I thought I had blogged about the ‘staches I made this summer, and perhaps…

Cardboard Luxury Home

As a parent who is concerned about proper nutrition for her kids, I try to get the best food available.  That said, I only have a certain amount of time per week, and I do not have the option of driving to the grocery store while my children are at school.  Needless to say,…

New projects have been envisioned!

One year, I don’t remember whether we had a Christmas tree, but I do remember helping my mom cover the entire front room with kraft paper, and making presents and ribbons and even a life-size fireplace out of paper. We hung our stockings in front of the paper fireplace. It was like the world had been magically transformed, and my Mom became a hero because she had done this. I also recall a time when she sat on the floor with me and we drew pictures on haunted houses using my huge box of crayons. My Mom is a very creative person, and the times when I was able to share the creation of things with her are cherished moments. I even remember hunting together for pinecones and then dipping them in glue and glitter to make beautiful sparkling decorations.

My Life is Like a Spiderweb

Here it is, January 2012. Some believe it is the end of the world. Many of us know that the Mayan calendar does not end, but begins again. Does this mean that history is doomed to repeat itself, as the calendar repeats? One thing I have noticed over the past year (from filling out dates…

Geektober!

It’s here! The busiest month of my year! So much to do, and seemingly never enough time! I could shock you all with a listing of my schedule for the month, which includes fundraisers, PTA events, and oh so many birthday parties… but I don’t want to remind myself of the monumental size of my…

Maps and other exciting things!

I want to start out by mentioning that my post about books came a few days too soon, because it was just shy of the release date of No Small Bills, Aaron’s latest novel.  It has only been out a few days, and has already been featured on the NOOK blog, and made it onto…

Summer Creativity for Little Geeks

My kids will be staying home this Summer, as the cost of day camp is high and the quality often low. Since they will be with me 24/7, I have been putting together a schedule of activities to keep them occupied and happy. I’ve already signed them up for the New York Public Library Summer…

Guest Blogger #1: Kathleen O. David

As promised, I am hosting guest bloggers for the Summer. I have known Kathleen for about ten years, and I have always been impressed with her incredible talent for creating dolls and puppets. I was very glad when she agreed to be my first guest! -J Wiggling Dolls for Fun and a little Profit I…
